Precision dice are dice that are very carefully cut, so that the size
is much more exact than regular dice. Also, the pips (dots) are flat,
not scooped out like normal dice; this means that no side is lighter
or heavier than another. They also have rounded edges and corners so
that they roll better, and you can see through them, which precludes
loading or weighting them.

Depending on which supplier you use, there are other sizes available too,
hence there is no 'proper' size as such. They are made in different sizes
(and colors) to suit the boards and dice cups (and eyesight) of the
players. For example, the dice cups on my board have inner recessed lips,
9/16" dice would sometimes fail to emerge simultaneously from the cup (one
would get trapped and not make it out), so I ordered 1/2" dice, which
worked fine with my equipment. Some players I know prefer larger 3/4"
opaque dice as they can see the numbers better than on small ones.
Also note that precision dice for board-gaming typically have rounded
corners, whereas precision casino dice have square corners. Rounded corners
roll better on small playing surfaces.
