Boards--Hardwood Creations
|
Some time ago there was a request on this newsgroup for a source of
backgammon boards made of wood. Last month at San Antonio's annual Fiesta
there was, as always, a craft fair with artists present by invitation only
from all over the country. David Levy, of Hardwood Creations, was
exhibiting at least two examples of exquisitely handsome folding hardwood
backgammon boards, sized 18 x 20 inches (about 45 by 50 cm). They are
heavy, solidly made, and rather modern in appearance (and expensive, though
not out of line with other products of the same quality and hand-made
character). The boards include checkers (wooden, with turned tops), a
doubling cube, and dice, but no dice cups. To quote from his product list
"Backgammon - Points in contrasting black walnut and birch or padauk
(bright red African wood, very attractive, BF) and birch. Framed in walnut
- framing designed so as to allow board to expand and contract in different
climatic conditions without cracking or warping." I have no connection
with Mr. Levy other than as a satisfied customer and provide his address to
others who might be interested. Hardwood Creations is at P. O. Box 542,
Davis California 95617, telephone 916-758-6624, fax 916-668-9665.
