You use a couple terms which I've seen before but am not clear on the
meaning. One is "stop pots".

Carter Mattig writes:
Stop pots are like progressive jackpots; you can win one you can get paid
out (minus a small cut) or roll the win over to another round, doubling the
stake.

Daniel Murphy writes:
Just to add a bit to Carter's comments:
2. Stop pots. They were originated, afaik, by Chris Ternel in the early
years of the Nordic Open. You entered at any level you liked. The Nordic
2010 offered "normal stoppots" from 10 euros to "infinite" and WBGT
Stoppots from 10 euros to 400 euros, according to the NO webiste. In the
"normal" stoppots, you cashed out whenever you liked or continued to the
next level at double the stake. In the WBGT stoppots, you entered at any
level you liked and played until you lost.
In the olden days of the Nordic -- until about 2001 -- stoppots were very
popular, they started at ~US$5, and the higher level at which you cashed
out, the smaller the rake. Around 2001, the popularity of stoppots lagged
in favor of ongoing 8- and 16-player jackpots; perhaps they are more
popular again now.

Chiva Tafazzoli writes:
The positive aspect of a stop pot is the fact that matches can be played
and finished whenever 2 players are available. An 8 or even 16 players
jackpot can delay the tournament schedule by a lot. It takes longer for the
jackpots to fill and longer to finish.

Daniel Murphy writes:
That's right. So, a word on how it works. When you're ready to play one,
you sign up for a stoppot at some level. As soon a a second player is ready
to play at that level, you two play your match. The winner has 3 choices:
(1) cash out immediately (2) report himself as "ready" for the next level
or (if he has something else to do) (3) wait and report himself "ready"
when he's actually ready to play a stop pot.
