New U.S. Rules

From:   Gregg Cattanach

Subject:   New U.S. Rules ratified
Forum:   GammOnLine

After a great deal of work, consultation with dozens of players and
directors, and the exchange of more than 1,000 e-mails, the final versions
of the new U.S. Backgammon Tournament Rules & Procedures and U.S.
Backgammon Clock Rules & Procedures are complete. The final versions of
both rule sets have been voted on and ratified by the 14 active ABT

You can find copies of both new rule sets in Adobe Reader .pdf format at (links near the bottom of the page). You are free to
download and save a copy for your own reference. I suspect links at other
web sites will soon be available as well.

Changes were made throughout the rules but the most substantive differences
are that now all premature actions stand (Tournament Rule 4.6) and that
there is now a penalty for picking up the dice early when playing with
clocks (Clock Rule 4.1). Please bear these in mind when playing in upcoming
U.S. tournaments. A complete reading of all the new rules is certainly a
good idea for any U.S. backgammon player.
