Does anyone have any information on when to use the free drop?
Specifically, which rolls should you drop after, or at least guidelines
about what rolls influence your drop/take decision?

Thanks in advance to the group.

I'm pretty sure this will be about >97% correct.

If you lose the opening roll you should drop the 'free-drop' cube unless:

1) you rolled doubles.
2) you pointed on your opponent's head.
3) you hit a checker in the outfield (i.e. loose hits in your own home
   board don't count).
4) your opponent slotted in his home board and you hit it.
5) you made your 5-point.

In scanning my rollouts there were a few other situations where making the
4 point or bar point was enough to take (usually when the opponent played
two-down), but those were exceptions.

If you win the opening roll, you basically should always take, but 41 and
52 are borderline cases and you might drop those two. (Snowie rollouts show
52 is still a take, Gnu says pass.)

As you'll be playing a DMP game when you win the opening roll, here is the
proper way to make those plays:

You should always split with your opening roll, including all 6x rolls.
Exception: slot with 21 and run with 64. 24/21 13/9 looks to be the best
split with 43.
