Must a hit checker be placed on the bar? From:   Dani Address:   dmascagni@hotmail.com Date:   1 May 2006 Subject:   question on hitting opponents Forum:   rec.games.backgammon Google:   1146537462.261434.222120@g10g2000cwb.googlegroups.com Could someone give me some feedback on a question that came up the other day as my opponent and I were playing a heated game of backgammon? I was winning and bringing my checkers into home. The number on one die forced me to hit my opponent and the die brought me into home territory. In this case, do I have to place my opponent's checker on the bar or do I have the option of leaving it on the board if it is to my advantage? E.g., if I roll a 5 and a 2, hit my opponent with the 5 and continue to move 2 with my same checker, do I have to "hit" my opponent's checker (hit and pass) or can I elect not to hit him? Ted Hwa  writes: If you land on his checker at any point during your move, you MUST put the opposing checker on the bar.
