Backgammon Books in Brief

The following books if read in the recommended sequence
properly compliment one another and will dramatically aid
the backgammon learning process.

Note: Backgammon books are higher in price because of
      low volume.

1) THE BACKGAMMON BOOK by Osward Jacoby/Crawford
Truly the "Bible of Backgammon". Recommended for any
player who has not read a book on backgammon. This
treatise is the foundation for all good play in the
game. Although conservative in its approach to game
strategy, one should digest this material before reading
about aggressive play. (Paperback - A Bantam Book ~ $3.50)

2) BACKGAMMON by Paul Magriel
By far the most complete book on the game. A must for
the serious minded backgammon enthusiasts. It carefully
explains the game's basic concepts, ideas and strategic
   principles. (Hardback - Times Books ~ $20.00) 400 pages

3) THE BACKGAMMON QUIZ BOOK by Prince Joli Kansil
112 Quizzes with answers for players of all skill levels.
This book is best used by doing the quizzes from time
to time as you develope your game.
   (Paperback - Playboy Press ~ 3.50)

4) PARADOXES and PROBABILITIES by Barclay Cooke
Backgammon workbook of 168 challenging problems for
   everyone from novice to expert.
   (Hardback - Random House ~ $9.00) 184 pages

Now if you get this far and still want more, backgammon
has become more than a game. The rest of the books listed
are for the "die-hard" backgammon players.

5) CHAMPIONSHIP BACKGAMMON by Barclay Cooke & Rene Orlean
   Through a unique format - a lively, colorful play-by-play
study of eight hard-fought duplicate games of the first
International Champion Match held in London in October
1973. By playing along, move by move, you are able to
grasp the finer points of the game.
   (Hardback - Prentice Hill ~ $19.95) 338 pages

6) BACKGAMMON WITH THE CHAMPIONS by Kent Goulding
Is a major contribution to backgammon literature and picks
up where other books leave off. Comes in two volumes,
each volume contains six matches played between two well-
known, world-class backgammon champions. Each match is
taken from a key round of a major tournament and is
comprehensively annotated by backgammon expect Kent Goulding.
(Volume I & II - KG Publication $60.00 each or $110 for both)
Order form can be obtained from: BACKGAMMON WITH THE CHAMPIONS
                    3504 Frederick Place
                    Kensington, Maryland 20895

7) VISIONS LAUGHS AT COUNTING with ADVICE TO THE DICELORN
(sold in interspersed two-volume set, 438 pages, $64)

with a format of letters to Miss Lonelyblots, the ever-
faithful counselor to the "Dorn-Lorn". The books are not
entirely technical but address the tricky subject of
mental attitude of how to approach the game. In addition,
it details many cheating techniques in order to alert the
   unwary player to these pitfalls.
