"Swing tournament"

Has anyone tried these? I haven't had a chance yet, but sure it's
interesting.  For those who haven't seen them, they are a kind of
backgammon tournament based on money play instead of match play for 6 or
10 players.

Each player starts with a stake of 1500. Players are matched randomly.
The first game is played for 100 chips per point, with doubling cube,
gammons and backgammons.  The second game, with a new player, is played
for 200 chips per point.  And so on, chips per point increase every game
until one player has all the chips.

Basically copied from poker. Not sure it will be successful, but I like
the idea. OTOH, I like any innovation attempt from online bg sites.
Can you also think of any significant change in strategy when playing

There should be a cap on the amount won or lost equal to the amount of
chips held by the player with the fewer chips.  Money games with a cap
can be quite a but different from a money game.  In this kind of
tournament it could be some rarely used caps. For example a cap of 300
with a stake of 200 means it is a "1.5-ing" cube instead of a doubling

Suppose the tournament is winner take all and the players are of equal
skill. Then you should have a linear utility function for chips. For
example if you were given the option of flipping a coin to either gain
or lose 100 chips, accepting the bet does not change you chance of
winning the tournament.  Also note that your chance of winning is (your
chips)/(total chips).

If it is not a winner take all event then this utility function could
very well change, especially near the end of the tournament.
