The "Bananas Split" is a bit more arcane than that, and it doesn't
necessarily involve hitting a blot. Let's say you have a full prime,
3-8 points, your opponent has a blot on your 2 point. You enter from
the bar and now must play a 2 ON YOUR SIDE OF THE BOARD. You can
either play the 2 from the back of your prime, leaving a blot, OR you
can make the bananas split, breaking your 3 point and moving 3-1.
One way opponent must roll a 6 to hit your blot while exiting, the
latter he must roll 1-6 to hit/exit.
My recollection is that the term came about due to the notion that one
"must be bananas" to make that play.
