| White to play 6-3. |
This is a relatively easy problem, yet one which is quite often played incorrectly. The correct play is to move 3 from White’s 8 point to White’s 5 point and then bear the same man off. If Black does not enter on his turn, you will expose a blot only with the roll of 6 and 5 (2 chances out of 36) — if you move a 6 from White’s 8 point to White’s 2 point, and a 3 from White’s 5 point to White’s 2 point. The rolls of double 6s, 5s, and 4s would cause you to leave a blot (3 chances out of 36 — or, in other words a 50 percent increase).
