I have heard some people say that this online magazine isnt as good as
it used to be, is it worth subscribing to?

Michael Sullivan  writes:

It's not as good as it used to be because Kit has stopped writing
articles and doing match annotations, but he's announced this and made
it cheaper -- he's no longer charging per year, just a one time fee of
$36, and you get 3-4 years worth of archives for that. There's easily
enough information there to make 2 or 3 good books. I've been a
subscriber for over a year now, and I still haven't made it through all
of the archives, so if it was worth $36/yr to you before, it's more than
worth $36 one time now, just for the archives.

Plus, the online match and discussion board will go on indefinitely, and
they are easily worth the one-time $36 cost by themselves.

Definitely worth the money. There are 3 very distinct parts to GOL
that make it worth it just on any 1 part alone.

First, there is a large archive of past issues with fabulous articles
and puzzles too. This is like buying several books that contain
various subjects that are too small to fit in a book by itself in my
opinion.

Second, there is the forum. Several very strong players (including
Neil Kazaross) post there all the time with interesting positions and
folks post questions about gnu, MET's and other bg questions and get
great, reliable answers. Good board graphics for posting positions and
you can copy positions from gnu right into it very easily too. No
extraneous bs like the swearing, rudeness and bizarre posts with
gibberish in the title like here.

Third, there is the Online Match with Kit Woolsey (GOL's owner). The
readers play a match vs Kit and vote on their favorite move and the
move with the most votes becomes the readers' move. There is a daily
discussion on the forum amongst the players about their moves and the
next day Kit gives a personal analysis of the move decisions for the
players and for his move(s) too. This is in effect ridiculously cheap
lessons from a world class player.
