I read something on the BG Forum Archive
(http://www.bkgm.com/rgb/rgb.cgi?view+872) were Doug Zare describes a
BG variant called "Bad Advice". On your turn, after you roll the dice,
you specify two legal moves, and your opponent chooses which one you
will play -- giving you Bad Advice. If you have only one legal move,
you make it. All other BG rules are the same.
I played a game of Bad Advice tonight, and it was weird. The early game
looked like bad but passable backgammon. I wound up playing a back game,
and my opponent had trouble bearing off -- you often have only one move
that doesn't leave a shot, so I got a lot of shots, but on the flip side
of the coin, I couldn't contain a checker after I hit it.
Suffice it to say, it was an interesting experiment, but it was quite
strange.
