White to play 2-1.

Do you take off the man from the 3 point, or do you move the man from the 6 point to the 3 point, so that you have two men on it? The two men together can get off in only seventeen ways, whereas the man alone on the 6 can make it in twenty-seven ways! Clearly, doubling up your men is not the way to do it. Finally, compare these with the chances for the 1-5 or 2-4 positions, both of which are good in twenty-three ways.
